FALL IS HERE. (A LETTER FROM PAUL SMITH)

Fall is upon us now as kids are back in school, nightly walks require a light jacket, and the leaves are slowly changing before our eyes. Fall is also when we host our third annual Red Hat Government Users and Developers Conference on November 1, 2007 at the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown DC. This is a great forum for customers to learn from each other by sharing best practices in open source. Emerging technologies, customer case studies, and successful partnerships are the focus of this year's event.

Want to know if Red Hat is participating in an upcoming conference or event? Check out our event calendar to see if we are coming your way. Red Hat supports industry venues where we not only like to speak to our customers face-to-face, but to give other agencies an introduction to the benefits of open source and how it can improve the way they do business today. We may see you on the Road.

Respectfully,
Paul Smith, VP of Government Sales Operations

GOVERNMENT SECURITY STANDARDS SPELL CHANNEL OPPORTUNITY

As the federal government takes steps to standardize IT security across agencies, solution providers are in a prime position to help with the transition and future compliance assurance efforts.

Earlier this year, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directed all agencies that run or plan to run Windows XP or Vista to adopt a security configuration developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by February 2008. In June, OMB released a second memo that provided agencies with recommended language for use in bids for technology to ensure contractors incorporate the proper security configurations with procured systems.

HP recently released new Multi-Level Security (MLS) Services for Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 5 in support of the open source OS vendor's government push.
